This is 1/72 Scale Italeri plastic model kit. The Corsair is one of the best known airplanes of WWII which fought against the entire array of aircraft used by the Japanese forces in the Pacific theater. It served in smaller air forces until the 1960s, following the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in U.S. history (1942–1952). It was the most capable carrier-based fighter of the war. The F4U incorporated the largest engine available, the 2,450 hp 18-cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial and it turned a huge 13' 4" 4-bladed prop. between 1940 and 1952 Corsairs served with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, British Fleet Air Arm and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, as well the French Navy Aeronavale. The Corsair was used in the Korean War as a fighter, close air support and ground attack role. The F4U-4B had a top speed of 448 mph and a ceiling of 41,000 feet. Italeri's F4U-4B Corsair will take pride of place on a modeler's shelf. Molded in blue plastic with a comprehensive decal sheet and paint instructions, the kit is detailed in many ways. Crisp panel lines are molded throughout. Cockpit detail is evident as well as accurate landing gear and tailhook. The formidable aircraft kit is fully equipped with wing mounted cannon and machine guns, ten 5" rockets and two 4,000lb bombs. With detailed paint and decal instructions, the kit can be completed as one of three different aircraft.
